GACC Heritage
1st
It was first held in 1996 and inspired by the GACC I director, James Fah. GACC stands for Grand ASEAN Chess Challenge. All the committee members agreed to go out in full force to search for page sponsors.
2nd
GACC II was held in the following year which under Mr Lim Fung Siang. This time, GACC II faced many problems such as lack of man power, effort of getting approval from other universities and many more. The opening ceremony was held in Dewan Umarak, Tuanku Bahiyah Residential College and for the first time, the closing ceromony was held in Concord Hotel.
3rd
The main objective of GACC III was to build good relationship between the university students across the region. Besides, the committee members also upgraded the name of GACC from Grand ASEAN Chess Challenge to Grand ASIAN Chess Challenge.
4th
GACC IV has been renamed as Rakan Muda The Asian Chess Challenge IV. This event was lead by Mr Albert Goh Chee Keong in 1999. GACC started to expand more and more players from universities of Asia were invited, therefore more fund was needed to run this project. Many other subprojects were held to raise fund.

In year 2000, the director GACC V was Mr Kwong Kar Kit. He said that, GACC V was renamed GACC Asian Chess Challenge V, open to participants from Asian countries. Since that was the first experience for them, they had conducted numbers of discussion and guided by various parties who were concerned especially Mr. Hamid from the Malaysian Chess Federation.

In year 2001, Grand Asian Chess Challenge VI (Rakan Muda GACC VI) was lead by Mr Yap Chee Keong. Although Mr Yap and his team faced some big problemsduring preparing the tournament, but all the problems had been solved by them. “Klinik Catur” is a sub-project done under GACC which exposed the undergraduates about chess, through seminar and exhibitions.
7th
In year 2002, Mr Ch’ng, the director said that GACC was already matured enough to elevate to a higher stage. With the commitment and relentless effort of GACC had expanded to the world level. So, the name of GACC VII was changed to Rakan Muda GACC World Open Chess Championship.
8th
In 2003, the GACC VIII was lead by Mr Chong Chun Wie. He thought that the title used on GACC VIII was not suitable for the GACC VIII anymore. At last, they had decided to change the title to GACC World Inter-Varsity Chess Challenge. GACC VIII would be a bigger tournament than before.
9th
In 2004, the GACC IX was lead by Mr Daniel Chung Weng Seng. As this was the 9th GACC organized, it had became more matured in facing problems and this enabled GACC to be recognized by the world.
10th
In 2005, the GACC X was lead by Mr Chow Kok Hou. As the time being, the director of 10th GACC had inroduced a theme for 10th GACC which is, “inTENd to WIN”. The theme was introduced in 2005 as the 10th anniversary of GACC. The theme made the committee members more motivated.

In 2006, the director was Mr Jackson Toh. The theme named “Elevate to Eleventh” was introduced. This was the first time that scrolls and banners of GACC being hung around the University of Malaya and Petaling Jaya area.
12th
In 2007, 12th GACC was lead by Mr Chu Soon Hon. There were much more man powers as the chess tournament climbing up to more prestigious level with twelve departments named: accomodation, delegation, domestic, marketing, miscellaneous, multimedia, publication, protocol, public relation, publicity, tournament and transportation. The theme introduced was “Thrive through twelve”. This was the first time that players from Philippines were invited and they managed to obtained champion in 12th GACC.
